HP Compaq MCP61PM-HM 5189-0929 Nettle2 Nettle2-GL8E AMD Desktop Motherboard. Motherboard manufacturer's name: ECS MCP61PM-HM; HP/Compaq name. Socket: AM2; Supports the following processors. Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 6150SE; Uses up to 256MB of PC.
I have an HP media center desktop and the motherboard died. Its 2 yrs of use, and out of warranty, and I was looking at motherboards online and i see some cheap ones (less than 100 dollars). I was wondeirng if I bought any of those motherboards they would match the processor, power adaptor and everything that needs to be attached to it. I dont wanna have to throw away the computer if i could fix it by replacing the motherboard for about 100 dollars. I am willing to pay upto 150 to fix it. (I use this system more more multimedia -games, movies etc, than anything else) What are some of the problems that I may encounter if installing an standard motherboard on an HP is possible? My computer specs here the following: Hardware Base processor Athlon 64 X2 (W) 5600+ 2.8 GHz (89W) 2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second) Socket AM2 Chipset GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Motherboard Manufacturer: ECS Motherboard Name: MCP61PM-HM HP/Compaq motherboard name: Nettle2-GL8E Memory Component Attributes Memory Installed 3 GB Maximum allowed 8 GB* (4 x 2 GB) (64-bit OS) 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) (32-bit OS) *Actual available memory may be less Speed supported PC2-5300 MB/sec Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM Hard drive 500 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) 7200 rpm 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive Must use Double-Layer media discs in order to take advantage of the DL technology Video Graphics Geforce 9800 GT AMD Live The only thing different is that I changed the graphics card for a Gforce 9800 GT Thanks in anticipation for your help.
You can't get schematics (wiring diagrams of the whole of the mboard's circuits) for computer mboards. You normally have to either find a mboard manual for the specific mboard model, or at least find the jumper and pinout info for the headers on the mboard in order to find out how you wire up the mboard.
In this case there is no normal mboard manual available, anywhere .....
You said in your newer topic:
'i'm a moron,sent out for specs on acer mobo.it's it;s E mach. they're the same i hear. i apologize'
Acer, Gateway, and Emachines are all part of the Acer Group of companies.
Gateway used to be a separate company but it was bought out by Acer years ago. I don't know when Acer acquired Emachines.
They're all makers of el-cheapo computers.
Sometimes more than one of the companies use the exact same mboard, but they have a specific bios version that's unique to the brand.
You probably cannot use the Recovery disks for your model unless the Recovery disks and the the mboard's bios version are both for the same brand - the software will probably refuse to install otherwise. ....
'...THE ORIGINAL M.B. DIED...' 'I REPLACED IT WITH AN ASUS M.B. AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT LAST 6 MONTHS'
Emachines desktop computers usually have a BESTEC power supply. BESTEC power supplies have a reputation of malfunctioning and failing a lot more often than average, and when they do that, they are a lot more likely than average to damage something else, especially when they fail completely, often the mboard. A BESTEC power supply malfunctioning or failing is probably the NUMBER ONE REASON an emachines desktop system fails to boot normally ! .............
The mboards used in Acer, Gateway, and Emachines computers are usually 'OEM only' - made by a major mboard maker ONLY for brand name system builders - there is no support for the mboard model on the mboard manufacturer's web site. That applies in this case. ECS has no info about this mboard model.
Usually this excellent third party web site has info about the jumpers and pinouts on mboards used in emachines models, and sometimes it lists a mboard manual download - you can't download the manual anymore, but you can search the web using it's exact name and usually find it.
It this case, this is the info it has about the mboard, but there is neither of those things there....
(Different Gateway part numbers - probably the same mboard, or two different revisions or versions of the same mboard model.)
Nothing there under Product Views in both cases.
.........
I searched using: ECS motherboard MCP61S
(NVidia MCP61S is the main chipset of your model)
...and found this....
See Product Views here - the pinouts may all be the same as on your mboard model: ECS MCP61-P AM2 Motherboard http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHER...
Motherboard makers often use the same headers and pinouts on mboards made at about the same time.
If there isn't enough info there for what you need, then you'll need to look at the manual of a retail ECS mboard model that was made at about the same time.
